Delving for Treasure

 Delving for Treasure

The elusive mystery of detective stories pulls us in.

We sharpen our observations.

We ask questions, notice paths to action.

We look for the culprit amid the facts

and discover the source of a crime. Ah-ha!

Other mysteries are less sinister, uncovering the forgotten.

They capture our imaginations,

beckon us below the surface

where we see the beginnings,

the roots of things, the origins. Illuminating!

The very first plants, the first creatures, first people.

Do they matter to us now?

We have come so far beyond our origins,

leaving our primitive past behind

in favor of the new, the advanced. We love progress..

Yet buried deep in those early life forms

we find qualities of resilience,

of interconnectedness, a strong life force

hidden in the things we have discarded.

Is it too late to reclaim them?

It's our choice.
