For Local Folks: March Earthcare Working Group meeting this Saturday, March 7th, at Prairie Hill, 2:00

 Just in case you're close enough to Iowa City to get to Prairie Hill Cohousing this coming Saturday, here's our agenda. All are welcome!

Water is important to all Iowans and this valuable resource -- our rivers, lakes, and aquifers -- are at risk.  We want to discuss the threats to Iowa's water, including legislation being considered in the Iowa Statehouse that will increase the water pollution problem.  We have invited Matt McAndrews, who is a water quality specialist, to add to our knowledge, and we will suggest opportunities and actions we can all take to address water quality.  We are hoping members of the Earthcare community have suggestions and information that will increase our understanding of Iowa's water problem and  possible solutions.

 I have just signed off from our sixth session of the Resilience and Acceptance course. Last week, I must admit that I struggled with accepting the state of the world right now, accepting the reality that we are already heading for the sixth extinction, and that it is too late to prevent it. Celebrating the Summer Solstice

I just had a birthday and received lots of beautiful cards. My favorite said in colorful handwriting: I’m so glad to be going around the sun with you.”  And that phrase makes me smile every time I look at it. What a great sentiment. Stepping back from our crowded busy lives and seeing us as a collection of beings living on earth and traveling around the sun. Thinking more broadly like this helps me when I get wound up by reading the news. It is almost more than I can take to find that so many people in our country, intelligent nice people, don’t see what chaos is being wrought in our government. They think our president is doing fine. That makes me feel a bit crazy. How can humans see things so very, very differently? It’s like we’re living in a science fiction dream, and we’re moving toward the crisis. Inspiration from Middle Earth

This was a busy day for me, and I was preoccupied with responsibilities: would I get enough done? how much was left on my to-do list? how much can wait until tomorrow? In the early afternoon, I realized I needed some grounding, something to help me let go and relax. So rather than take a nap, I cuddled up on my bed and listened to the next installment in my CD recording of Lord of the Rings . When I'm going to sleep at night, I often listen to a recording of a book I already have read and that I like. That way I don't have to stay awake and can just enjoy the narrative until I fall asleep. Today it seemed just what I needed: listen to the next chapter of one of my all-time favorite books. I didn't want to sleep, just to get my mind free of the worries of the day. As I listened, fully awake and cozy, I marveled at Tolkien's writing and the story which seemed to fit so well with the times we are going through here on earth.
