 Listen to the Trees


In our human world

on the planet Earth

it is a frightening time.


Not only have we forgotten our roots,

our place in the vast infrastructure

upholding and surrounding us.


Powerful leaders are also learning mind control,

using their brains and influence

to control their fellow humans.


TV commercials, political ads, so much media:

people wanting power and wealth,

have lost the integrity of truth and conscience.


It feels like we’re always needing to protect ourselves

from those who want to manipulate us,

in order to get what they want.


Yesterday, amid all this scary chaos,

I was handed a beautiful book

about Trees, about their history and place here.


It reminded me to look beyond my species,

to see our predicament in the world

with a wider perspective.


We humans are brilliant in some ways,

but are so susceptible to greed, power and competition,

and we may well not survive much longer.


But trees have learned over thousands of years

to live in harmony with other forms of life.

They are beautiful teachers, if only we would listen.


If human civilization collapses,

maybe trees will take over

and the earth can return to beauty.

    It is a nice thought that trees will take over-----I know we must all return to time in nature to heal if we are to survive----.

Feeling Angry, Feeling Guilty,, and Then Feeling Grateful

 A room-full of us watched an earth-shaking movie on Saturday. It's called "Regenerating Life". We didn't really know what to expect, but it had been highly recommended so when we entered the room, we probably all thought it would be at least somewhat educational. What we didn't realize is that it would totally shake us up, in a good way. It is almost 3 hours long, and that's a long time to sit. But most of us stayed through the whole thing, and as soon as it was finished, people started asking if they could see it again. There was so much information that we wanted to hold onto. So I am now figuring out when we can re-show it. You have to rent this one from Prime, but it's worth the cost!! When I left the group on Saturday, I was feeling glad that I'd picked a good movie. Feeling the Wind and the Rain

  Feeling the Wind and Rain Today I braved the heat and walked out to my garden.  It was still morning, and if I was going to catch up on weeding, this seemed to be the best time. I put on the same clothes that I had sweated through yesterday. They could get sweaty and dirty again. And I sat down amidst the weeds and started rescuing the tiny lavender and zinnias, and beets and tomatoes  and peppers and fennel plants. It was good. The ground was already damp enough so that the roots came up easily. I was so intent on clearing away the weeds so “my” plants could have an easier life that I didn’t notice it had clouded up. I did notice the wind, which was refreshing. It allowed me to keep working, not getting too hot. Then I started noticing random rain drops coming down. And I thought, no need to quit!
